School proprietor in police net over pupil’s death in bus fire

One of the pupils of Hope of Tomorrow Academy, in Akungba Akoko, who were involved in a fire incident that engulfed their school bus on Tuesday, has reportedly died in his parents home.
The Hope Metro gathered that the yet-to-be identified deceased was rushed home from the scene on the fateful day, but gave up the ghost on Wednesday.
Reports had it that the proprietor of the school is now in police custody while efforts to get the comment of the police in Akungba Akoko is not successful.
The incident which occurred around 8am on Tuesday, caused serious anxiety and tension in the University community, as parents ran shelter-skelter when they learnt of the sad incident.
It was reliably gathered that the injured pupils were rushed to the nearby General Hospital in Iwaro Oka, after receiving first aid treatment at the scene of the fire incident.
It was learnt that one of the victims, who was later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, is now in a stable condition and responding to treatment.
Recall no fewer than 15 pupils of the school in Akungba, Akoko South West Local Government area of Ondo State, suffered burnt injuries after their school bus was caught fire on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the driver of the bus was picking up the pupils from their various homes when the fire broke out in the bus.
A witnesses, who identified himself as Olumide, narrated, “There was smoke in the sky and people ran to the area and it was discovered that it was a fire incident involving school children.
“It took the intervention of residents who immediately broke the rear shield after discovering that the doors of the vehicle were locked.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, said the affected children were in the hospital.
Odunlami said she got information that one of them passed on in his parents house.
