From Fisayo Akinduro, Osogbo
As Federal Government plans to reopen schools for academic activities, students have been urged to prepare ahead in order to meet up with the calendar year.
An educationist, Mrs Dupe Adetila who gave the advice in Osogbo said the 2019/2020 academic calendar is already truncated by the coronavirus outbreak.
It will be recalled that the Federal government in March, 2020 ordered the immediate closure of schools in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Although the resumption date is not yet fixed, the Federal government last week said schools would reopen after they are resourced properly.
Adetila also tasks teachers and guardians to assist students by bring up to speed the lost time encountered in the calendar year.
While commending schools for adopting online teaching, noted that physical teaching and communication helps students learn and focus more than watching classes on television or internet.
“We can never compare teaching in classrooms with internet or television. Although, the world is advancing and we need to meet up but, our conventional teaching helps students develop more than online teaching.
“Some students are deprived of the online classes due to lack of facilities to watch the classes and even electricity to meet up.
“We need to face reality as Nigeria is not yet ripe for online classes as 70 percent of students don’t have access to it.”
She also urged schools owners to observe precautionary measures when schools resumes as part of its effort to stem the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
