Science, key to Nigeria development – Stakeholders

Stakeholders have called on government to give priority to Science in schools in order to ensure the development of the country.
The stakeholders made the call at the annual National Conference of the School of Science, ANCOSOS, tagged “The role of science and science education in driving economic growth and sustainability”.
The keynote speaker, a professor at the Department of Human Kinetics and Physical Health Education at Ekiti State University, EKSU, Joseph Adegboyega said Nigeria is endowed with productive human and natural resources, adding that there’s a need to transform the raw materials into valuable goods and services for economic development and improve quality of life.
An educationist from Adeyemi College of Education, Nelson Osungbemiro called on government at all levels to ensure the sustainability of scientific development through the 7Rs – Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Regift and Recycle.
Osungbenro said science broadens human knowledge of fundamental concepts and helps in terms of clothing, transportation, feeding, and health among others, urging government to work towards the sustainability of scientific development in the country.
In their remarks, the acting Provost of the institution, Dr Ajigbade Ikuejube and the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Abimbola Oladapo stated that the role of science in nation-building has made the world a global village and overall development of human race.
In his goodwill message, the Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo represented, by the Odofin of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Olusola Olaniyan, described science as the most important aspect of life, charging educationist to train and retrain the young ones in the profession.
In his welcome address the Chairman of ANCOSOS, M.S Olajide and Dean science of science ACE, Dr Anthony Izuage said the program was organized to preserve natural resources for the sustainable development of Nigeria.
