The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, has stressed the need for security agencies to focus their efforts on ensuring Nigeria remains united and peaceful.

He made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the Oyo State Director of Security (SDS), Department of State Services (DSS), Rasheed Adelakun, at the 2 Division Headquarters on Tuesday, 22 October 2024.

Major General Onubogu expressed appreciation to the SDS for the visit and highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the DSS, which has significantly contributed to maintaining relative peace in Oyo State.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, on 23 October 2024, made available to The Hope Metro, he particularly noted the challenges posed by Yoruba nation agitators and banditry in the state, crediting the successes achieved so far to the joint efforts of the NA, DSS, and other security agencies.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, on 23 October 2024, and made available to The Hope Metro, the GOC particularly noted the challenges posed by Yoruba nation agitators and banditry in the state, crediting the successes achieved so far to the joint efforts of the Nigerian Army, DSS, and other security agencies.

“I am really glad that you are here, as I believe the combined efforts of all relevant security agencies in the state are essential to ensuring that Nigeria remains one, united, and peaceful,” the GOC said.

He urged the new SDS to leverage his experience to further enhance the state’s security landscape.

Major General Onubogu also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s readiness to support all initiatives aimed at enhancing and sustaining security.

In his remarks, SDS Rasheed Adelakun thanked the GOC for the warm reception and underscored the importance of the visit in strengthening ties between the DSS and the Nigerian Army.

He reaffirmed the DSS’s commitment to working closely with the Army to improve security in Oyo State and beyond.

“I am here to reaffirm the commitment of the DSS to work closely with the NA and the military in general, fostering effective cooperation and collaboration in areas of operations and other administrative matters,” Adelakun stated.

He further pledged to build on the synergy established by his predecessor, ensuring timely sharing of information and collaborative efforts to create a secure environment conducive for peace, stability, and economic growth in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

The courtesy visit was attended by Principal Staff Officers from both the 2 Division Headquarters and the DSS Oyo State Command.

The event concluded with the exchange of souvenirs between the GOC and the SDS.
