Security guard, 60, jailed for stealing school property

An Akure Magistrates Court has sentenced a 60-year-old security guard, Pious Danladi, to six months imprisonment for stealing mattresses, chairs and other school items.
The presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni convinced and handed down the sentence on the convict, based on his guilty plea to a charge of stealing levelled against him by the Police
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Simon Wada told the court that Danladi commited the offence sometimes in the month of December, 2021, at about 10:30 pm at Apex Group of School, off Ado Ekiti Road Akure.
The prosecutor said the convict who was employed as security guard in the school by the complainant stole some items in his costudy and took to his heels
The prosecutor explained that the convict stole 25 pieces of plastic chairs valued at N62,500, some iron pipes valued at N50,000, two mattresses value at N70,000 ,4 cooking pot valued at N3500 and other items total valued at N189, 000 belonging to Apex Group of School, Akure in care of Stella Akinwale.
Wada said during police investigations, the convict admitted to the crime and confessed he sold the said items to some unknown persons.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of section 390(9)of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defence counsel, however, begged the court for leniency his client due to the fact he is first time offender, who did not waste the time and resources of the court.
He also prayed court to also consider the age of the defendant and give his sometimes to work and pay back the complainant claims
Sekoni hereby, suspended the sentence for three months to enable him to work and pay the complainant.
