A security man, Blessed Danjuma, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by an Akure Magistrates’ Court for impersonating an army personnel.

Danjuma, 31, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the lone count of impersonation levelled against him by the police.

Magistrate O.R Yakubu sentenced the convict to three months at Olokuta Correctional Centre, without an option of fine.

Yakubu, said the sentence would serve as deterrent to others who engage in similar act.

The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen had earlier told the court that Danjuma committed the offence on April 15, 2023 at about 12:00am at Shasha, Akure/Owo Road.

Omhenemhen alleged that the convict was apprehended by military personnel while dispossessing passersby of their belongings in the area, before being handed over to the police.

The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 109 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.

Counsel to the defendant, Kizito Duru, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that Danjuma, upon arrest confessed to the crime and that he was a first offender.

The magistrate held that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others engaging in similar act.

Yakubu said she deliberately reduced the sentence term since the convict did not waste the time of the court.
