Security man, two others arraigned over alleged burglary, killing dog

An Akure Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 25-year old security man, David Bitrus and two others over alleged housebreaking, theft and killing of his employer’s dog.
Bitrus and two others, Hosea Daniel, 27 and Timothy Jesse, 23, of no fixed addresses, were arraigned on a six-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, stealing, malicious damage and cruelty to animals.
The prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehini, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence between August and October, 2024 at various times, at Zone D, Road 2, Oba Afunbiowo Estate, Akure.
He said that the defendants forcefully entered into the residence of the complainant, one Adetayo Adesida and stole the following items; a house electric wire valued at N4,250,000, one pumping machine valued at N250,000, a total valued at N4,500,000
The defendants, on the same day and place, were also alleged to have unlawfully damaged a house ceiling valued at N250,000 and one burglary proof valued at N370,000.
The prosecutor further revealed that the defendants on October 11 at 8 am angrily killed one German Shepard dog valued at N2,700,000 belonging to the complainant.
The offences contravene Sections 516, 412,383, 415,390 and 495 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Magistrate Kolawole Aro ordered that the defendant be remanded in Olokuta Correctional Facility and adjourned the case till November 14, for their bail consideration and trial.
