Chairman, Ondo State chapter, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),  Dr. Wale Oke has commended the government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for giving priority to security issue in the state.

He gave the commendation while speaking with The Hope yesterday in Akure.

According to him, the constitution of the State Security Summit which has been scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, is the first of its kind saying “it is a good development.”

Speaking further, he lauded the governor for putting in place measures that will guarantee the safety of users of the Akure – Owo road.

He said; “After the Ondo NMA’s Press Conference, the state government responded to our yearning, although some of our recommendations like the extension of the road 20 – 50 metres away from the main road is yet to be implemented.

“The road is being patrolled and at the same time, we are aware that some people have been arrested and the place is getting safer now.”

Dr. Oke also commended government for the employment of doctors so far and asked that it does more in order to have a robust health system.

While commending government for the establishment of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, he stressed the need for government to provide an alternative for the secondary health care saying “if they want to be merged at all, there should be a credible alternative so that the secondary health system can be maintained where our people can be attended to.”

Speaking on his projection for the year,  he explained that priority will be given to doctors’ welfare in all ramifications and added that measures are being put in place to eradicate quackery in the profession saying “the issue of quackery is strongly being addressed, as no one can get a medical report without having the  NMA stamp on it.”
