Security of life is everybody’s duty

A security expert, Colonel Rotimi Alade (Rtrd) has described the task of securing lives and properties in the country as the job of all and as such should not be seen as solely the responsibility of government.

Colonel Alade stated this while delivering a lecture on security issues to the 2018 Batch ‘C'( stream 1) Orientation Course members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko recently.

The retired army officer who is also the Managing Director of Oakland Security, Akure posited that if people begin to see securing of the country as the duty of all then Nigeria will be free from all the security threats in the country.

Meanwhile, Colonel Alade has charged the corps members to be security conscious at all times during and after the service year.

He warned them against living ostentatious lifestyle as these attract criminals to take advantage of these security situation to carry out their evil acts

“As corps members, it is expected that you will live a flashy but moderate lifestyles as anything in the contrary will make you a cynosure of the prying eyes of criminal minded people in the society”.

He therefore implored them to study the terrain where they are and also have a full knowledge of their host communities.

” You should study your terrain very well and know your community very well so that in case of any eventuality you will know your route back or the steps to take”

He also advised them to desist from visiting security flashpoints at odd hours as such places harbour criminals.

Colonel Alade advised corps members, especially the females to shun free or unsolicited assistance as they often lead to bad occurrence.

Equally, he advised them to always be conversant with telephone numbers of all the security agencies in their localities for assistance whenever the need arises.

On her own, the Ondo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabio enjoined the corps members to avail themselves of the security tips by the management of NYSC as contained in the security pamphlet of the outfit.

The Camp Director, Mr Adebowale Ogunfido asked them to justify the investment made by the NYSC in the security of their lives and property by adhering to the advice given by the security expert.
