A former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly,  also a former  Chairman, House Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development Committee, Mr. Afolabi Iwalewa has advised  the state government to carry out more sensitisation on the importance of the Land Use Charge.

He gave the advice during an interview with The Hope in Akure recently.

He noted that the  people needed to be sensitised so as to know the purpose of the bill and make them see the impact.

Iwalewa congratulated the state govenrment for taking up the implementation of the state Land Use Charge which he said would bring more development to the state.

He said the Land Use Charge had been signed into law since 2014 but that successive  governments did not effect  it’s implementation.

The former law maker urged the people to abide with the law saying it will promote and bring development to the state.

The Head of Land Use Charge, Board of internal Revenue (BIR) Mr Fidelis Akinsanmi Fadugbagbe told The Hope that the board has captured, enumerated and served payment bills of the Land Use Charge to residents of Oba-Ile housing estate, in Akure North local government area of the state.

Fadugbagbe who spoke with The Hope   at the estate while serving another round of bills said that the board officials had served the residents the bills repeatedly as they kept complaining that they were not served the bills for payment .

He said over 1,800 buildings have been served bills in the estate while about 100 residents claimed that they have not seen such bill.

Fadugbagbe said they have gone round to serve another round to those who claimed not to have been served the bills so that they have the opportunity to make payment.

He observed that about six houses have removed tags affixed to the buildings which indicated that their houses have been enumerated, captured and served bills for payment.

The tag , he said does not have a duplicate and it contained a specified number for the house which has been captured into the state data base.

“For this to be removed and cannot be found, the penalty is N100,000”, he further explained.

He called on the people to abide with the law and stop harassing officials from the board in performing their duties saying because they are working towards making the state a better place for everybody.
