Serial killings of Okada riders persist in Ondo
By Jimoh Ahmed, Owo
The spate of serial killings targeting okada riders in the Akoko area of Ondo State continues unchecked, with the latest incident occurring yesterday afternoon along the Arigidi-Okeagbe road, near TB Joshua Land.
The victim, identified simply as Yakubu by his associates, was found dead in a pool of blood at the centre of the road, his throat brutally slashed, and his motorcycle missing.
When The Hope visited the scene, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okeagbe, along with the officer in charge of the Civil Defence, Tajudeen Mutiu, and members of the Amotekun Corps, were seen making efforts to convey the corpse to the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ikare Akoko.
Investigations reveal that this marks the fourth such incident within the same area.
Meanwhile, the development has instilled fear among residents and travellers who now dread using the road.
It is worth noting that Akoko monarchs recently convened in Ogbagi Akoko to address the rising wave of violence in the region.
In a related development, the Akoko Security and Economic Development Council has underscored the critical importance of community-based security initiatives as a means to curb the escalating insecurity in Akoko land.
