Sexagenarian remanded for allegedly defiling 10-year old girl

A 65-year old man, Mosudi Mukaila, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over the alleged defilement of a 10-year old girl.
The suspect, whose residential address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on child defilement at the Family Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure.
Police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the incident occurred sometime in February 2025 at Okoro Street in the Isolo area of Akure.
Olowofeso alleged that the elderly man lured the minor, identified as Goodness Sunday, and inserted his fingers in her private parts without her consent.
According to the prosecution, the defendant sometime in February 2025 at Okoro Street, Isolo, Akure, in Ondo State, unlawfully defiled Goodness Sunday, aged 10, when he inserted his fingers in her private part and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 4(2) of the VAP Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2021.”
Mukaila, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The prosecutor, urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional facility pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
In her ruling, Magistrate T. G. Alphonso, granted the request and ordered that the defendant be kept behind bars pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The case was adjourned till May 6, 2025 for further mention.
