Two men, Odundare Abdulrauf, 66 and Tajudeen Popoola, 62 have been remanded in Ilesa prison by an Osogbo  Magistrates’ Court for alleged burglary and conspiracy.

The accused persons committed the offences on July 20, 2014, at about 10 p.m. at Onward area of Osogbo.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun said the duo conspired to break into the apartment of one Odeniyi Ayodeji and attempted to cart away some valuables before they were apprehended and brought to court.

Olusegun said the accused persons stole a Mercedes Benz car valued at N1.5 million, debit cards and handsets, belonging to the complainant.

He said the accused persons also have in their possession master keys and other sensitive materials which they used to rob.

The duo, who pleaded not guilty, are both facing a four count-charge of burglary, theft, conspiracy and breach of public peace.

The offence contravened Sections 516, 411(1), 390(9) and 430(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Aisha Oloyade however, overruled the bail application on the ground that the accused persons had earlier jumped bail and were rearrested and had, therefore, abused the privilege given to them.

The Magistrate ordered that the accused be kept behind bars, due to the magnitude of their offence.

The case was adjourned till August 17, 2019 for hearing.
