Shooting Stars pip Rangers at Cathedral
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan secured their second away win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Rangers International of Enugu on Sunday.
Ikouwem Utin’s thunderous 28th-minute strike earned the Stars maximum points, ending the Flying Antelopes’ impressive 10-match unbeaten run at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
The first half saw the Ibadan-based team dominate, with Alex Aghahowa, Daddy Abdulrahman, and Tijani Kabir commanding the midfield, while Akpan Joshua, Tosin Olawale, and Fasanmi Olaniyi posed consistent threats to the hosts’ defence.
Rangers intensified their efforts in the second half but failed to break through Shooting Stars’ resolute defence, led by Desmond Ojietefien, Ayodeji Bamidele, Gbolagade Adelowo, and Ikouwem Utin, with goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal delivering a stellar performance. A missed penalty by Ikenna Stephen in the 81st minute sealed Rangers’ fate.
With this fourth consecutive win, Shooting Stars now sit third on the log with 30 points from 18 matches, trailing joint leaders Remo Stars and Rivers United by three points. The Oluyole Warriors will look to extend their impressive form when they host Kwara United FC of Ilorin next Sunday.
