Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, who are proceeding on the 2019 Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), have been tasked to make positive contributions to their respective places of primary assignment.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, gave the charge at the Orientation exercise for the students,   urging them to use opportunities offered by the scheme to make meaningful contributions to the development of the society.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Francis Gbore, the VC urged them to bring their academic training to bear on every assignment they might be given and demonstrate exceptional qualities that could encourage organisations to consider them for permanent employment after graduation as previously experienced by some of their predecessors.

Officials from the Akure Area Office of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) led by the Area Manager, Mr. Gabriel Oladimeji, took turns to educate the students on the rules guiding the scheme and on how the students could avoid potential pitfalls.

The Acting Director of the Industrial Training Unit of the University, Dr. Festus Olajubu, while addressing the gathering, said SIWES was designed to lay the foundation for all-round development of students and acquaint them with the challenges hindering the nation’s technological and economic development.

He urged the students to use the period to not only gain skills, but to also endeavour to interact and establish contacts that would be useful in future.

Highlights of the event include the presentation of prizes and awards to four students who were outstanding during last year’s edition of the SIWES programme. They are: Onaopemipo Modu (Mass Communication), Bridget Adedayo (Earth Science), Titiilayo Olaniyi  (Public Administration), and Olumide Olaseyo (Computer Science).
