Six bag First Class in UNIMED

All is now set for the convocation ceremony of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021sets of University of Medical Sciences, Ondo as six graduates bagged first class honours.

Award will be given to 252 first degrees at the ceremony which holds today, out of which six graduands will graduate with first- class honours, 106 with second class honours(upper), 106 with second class honours (lower) and 11 with third class.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution , Prof. Adesegun Fatusi who disclosed this to herald the combined ceremony, said 32 Bachelor of Physiotherapy graduands and the first set of students from the nursing science who have been inducted by their respective registration councils and  licensed to practice will participate in the ceremony.

He said the University is having the first set of graduands from the Plant Biology and Biotechnology programmes, who are critical to the agenda on advancing phytomedicine and herbal medicine.

He said the number of available courses in the university have increased from 14 to 26 in the last two years, noting that the new 12 courses were duly resource- verified and approved for take – off by the National University Commission (NUC).

According to him, all the courses in UNIMED that are mature for accreditation have all been fully accredited by the NUC including Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Medical Laboratory Science.

He added that the institution has also secured the accreditation of relevant professional bodies for all programmes relevant to the stage of the training programmes.

Fatusi noted that the convocation ceremony will also feature the  commissioning of three building projects at Laje medical village campus and also conferment of UNIMED Heroes award on four distinguished Nigerians who are great supporters of the University’s developmental agenda.

The VC affirmed  that the school will be running certificate- and diploma-level training in various specialised area. These areas include, health security, building capacity to mitigate public health incidents such as epidemics and pandemics.

According to him, the school will commence the postgraduate programmes in several health-related and basic medical sciences fields such as Molecular Biology, Medical physics, Medicinal chemistry, Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology soon.
