Abimbola Sokoya has assumed office as the new Acting Assistant Inspector General, AIG, of Police in charge of Zone 17, Police Headquarters, Akure.
The zone covers Ondo and Ekiti States.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Akeem Adeoye, stated this in a statement, that Sokoya resumed work in the zone on Monday, February 20
According to the ZPPRO, the arrival of the new Acting AIG was sequel to the recent retirement of the former Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Y.M Akeera
Adeoye stated that Sokoya was once the Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos and until his posting as Acting AIG Zone 17, he was the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State.
“As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, he was the DCP Operations, Zone 4 Makurdi and Kwara State Command.
“He was appointed as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988. CP Abimbola Adebola Sokoya psc (+), is a versatile police officer who has served the Force in various capacities which includes Divisional Police Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Basic Wing, Police College Orji-River. He was also ACP in charge of Operations, Nasarawa State Command.
“The Acting AIG is a native of Ikenne Local Government of Ogun State and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Psychology from the prestigious University of Ibadan. He also holds a master’s and doctorate degrees in law. CP Sokoya was called to the Nigeria bar in the year 2002.” Adeoye said
