“My Lord, I want the custody of my children, because wife is promiscuous. If they live with her, they will follow her footsteps. They would be corrupt and their lives would not be useful for me and the society.”
A 39-year-old businessman, Ernest Chukwulogha had told the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Oke-Eda during the hearing of a divorce suit he filed at the court, in which he is seeking for the dissolution of his twelve years old marriage with his wife.
According to him, his son told him that his wife had been involved in adultery in his house whenever he traveled.
He said the boy narrated how his mother(wife) and his lover would naked themselves and been having sex in his presence and the remaining children.
Chukwulogha told the court that he traveled to China to buy goods to his shop sometimes in the year 2015, but when he came back, he met his shop empty.
“I asked my wife for the goods or the money from the sales. But she said she would explain to me later.
“On the second day, I asked my wife again. But she told me that she was duped by fraudsters to the tune of N2.5 million naira, including the goods,”he said.
The petitioner said to his amazement, his wife packed all her belongings out of his house the following day he asked for his money saying she could not give him reasonable answer.
“I reported to her parents, but they told me to bear my cross. They warned me not to trouble their daughter again.
“My wife and her parents planned my downfall. They did not want my progress. They told me to leave them alone.
“Her parents told me that I should look for my wife elsewhere, because their daughter is no more interested in any marriage again,”he explained.
He further told the court that his wife had given him the go ahead to take his children along with him and take care of them.
He added that his wife has another man in her life and she had rented another apartment while she was still living with him.
His words,”They have been using the place for enjoyment. She even told my son not to tell me about the house she rented outside.
“The last time I went to my in-laws house, they retuned the dowry I paid back to him. And they told me we are no longer husband and wife
The petitioner, therefore, urged the court to admit his claims and grant his prayer because he was tired of the marriage.
Chukwulogba’s counsel, Barr. Olaleye Akintulubo, tendered the marriage certificate and a copy of order from the family court before the court. And the documents were marked as exhibits.
However, the respondent, Mrs Angela Chukwulogha, was not in the court to defend her case.
The presiding president, Barr. A Akinseye, adjourned the case till February 27, 2019 for judgement.
