Sound education has been identified as one of the ways by which the future of Nigerian children can be secured.

Stakeholders in the education sector who spoke with The Hope as the world marked this year’s children’s day, noted that the future of Nigerian children is bleak except more efforts are put into the development of the sector.

Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Ondo State chapter, Comrade Victor Amoko said security is beyond having military men around to protect the children.

He added that the security of a nation depends largely on the strength of its economy which can only be built by people with sound intellect.

While stressing the need to give sound education to Nigerian children, Amoko said all hands must be on deck to achieve the desired results in education.

According to him, children must be made to know the value of education so that they can be useful to themselves in future.

“Education for all is the role of everybody. Education must be child-centred. Government must do its bid. Philanthropists must give to education. Parents must strive to ensure that their children have sound education and the children must be ready to learn.

“There is the need to utilize all our variables because we are going nowhere with the way education is being handled in this country. We have good policies, but they are not properly implemented”, he said.

Speaking on the issue, Secretary of Parents Teachers Association PTA in the state, Dr Toyin Olobayo said the future of Nigerian children is bleak with the way education is being managed in the country.

Olobayo who stated that the education of Nigerian children is more important than the frivolous things our leaders are busy with, noted that ASUU strike ought to have been resolved if they are serious with education.

“Are there enough facilities in our schools. If you go to most of the private schools you will see how they are  equiped with facilities but go to government schools, the opposite is the case. Are we saying that these individuals are richer than government?

“Also, do we have enough and qualified teachers, are they being properly remunerated? Unless all these issues are addressed, the future is Nigerian children is bleak,” he stressed

He said enough fund must be given to education adding that Nigeria is far below the standard of UNESCO in its budget for education.

He called on all stakeholders to be ready to play their roles effectively so that the future of the children can be secured.
