Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has assured that the South West governors would tackle the various security challenges confronting the region.

Akeredolu gave the assurance in Akure, the Ondo state capital, while leading other South-West governors on a condolence visit to Chief Reuben Fasoranti, leader of Afenifere after the burial of his daughter, Mrs Olufunke Olakunori who was killed by unknown gunmen along Benin-Ore expressway. She was 58 years.

The governors included Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.

Akeredolu equally reiterated their stand against nomadism in the region and advised the Federal Government to introduce ranches for the purpose of cattle rearing.

Speaking on behalf of the Governors, Akeredolu said the region was confronted with a lot of security challenges, and expressed confidence that those responsible would be arrested to face the full weight of the law.

“It is a serious security challenge but we are prepared to face the challenge, don’t doubt it. Something drastic and urgent has to be done and we are determined to do it, there is no other way.

“This incident happened in Ondo State, so I have the responsibility to secure the lives and property in the state. We want to give our words to get to the roots of the incident and get those responsible,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the Fasoranti’s family, the Secretary General of Afenifere, Chief Seinde Arogbofa, expressed gratitude to the governors particularly on the remarks of Arakunrin Akeredolu, which he described as heartwarming and encouraging.

He extolled the virtues of the late Mrs. Olufunke Olakunori saying her demise is a great loss, not only to Akureland and  the Yoruba Nation, but to Nigeria at large.
