Osun State government says its policy and drives in revamping sporting activities in the state would further empower youths.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths and Sports, Adegboyega Adelabu disclosed this while receiving Osun Football Association board members in his office.
Adelabu reaffirmed that government was committed and serious about restoring the lost glory of sports in the state.
He commended the steadfastness and the leadership of the state football association in keeping and weathering the storm when it matters most.
“I want to salute your passion in developing football in the state. You are doing the job without any remuneration but it’s so sad you didn’t get the needed support and commendations, we are sincerely sorry for the governmental infirmities.
“Our administration is ready to work with you. Football is madness amongst the youth. The game has popularised prominent personalities in the country in time past.
“If not for the outbreak of coronavirus, we would have initiated a competition throughout the state where every political office holder would raise and sponsor a team, about three hundred and fifty (350) teams were projected to start the tourney in all local government areas before advancing to state level.
“l believe our partnership will go a long way in ensuring that more talents are discovered in a way that will benefit the state.
“The machinery is already in motion to start grooming talents for Osun United through a feeder set up. We are going to rely on your expertise in bringing up private individuals and corporate bodies to help this course.
By God’s grace, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi Football House too will receive government and individuals attention soonest,” he concluded.
Adelabu commended the giant strides of the association in the state, noting that they deserves approbation for developing and sustaining football activities in the state even in the face of unfriendly atmosphere with little or no support from the government.
The board members led by its chairman, Ishola Mustapha commended Adelabu for hitting the ground running since his assumption in office.
