Our aim of organising the maiden edition of the Sunshine Swimming and the Tennis competitions was to expose the best among the students to international competitions, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and technology, Mr Akin Asaniyan has said .
Asaniyan disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen during the finals of the competitions held at the Ondo State sports complex , Akure the state capital.
He said the ministry decided to revive the affective, cognitive and psychomotor educational system which are the three domains of learning,these aspects had been neglected for many years . He pointed out that the three are the physical exercise that will enhance mental capacity of the Students .
“These are the sports aspect of learning and we just have to resuscitate it now”.
According to him, “we look at the different sports ,we say we should start with swimming because we have Olympic standard pool, then we include lawn tennis ,which we know is an international sports, that was how we started the planning of the resuscitation.
“Our intention was to collaborate with the ministry of sports and Mrs Akeredolu’s Tennis clinic , with the hope that this vision can cascade into having Sports academy to groom the students for future champions”, he stated.
He opined that Ondo State can start organising a sort of sports event and tagged it Ondo Sports Festival, where other States can come here to compete for prizes.
“Before you know it Ondo State will become a cynosure of all eyes in terms of School sports , these are the plan we have for school Sports”.
We are not going to stop here , we will be monitoring those outstanding students of this maiden edition , they are not going to be abandoned”, he concluded.
