Stakeholders bemoan moral decadence among youths

In  a bid to curb the rate of underage clubbing and moral decadence among youths, stakeholders in Ondo West Local Government have mapped out plans to orientate and sensitise teenagers hanging around hotels and clubs.

They disclosed this during a stakeholders’ community meeting with the Ondo West Council Chairman, Mr Ebenezer Akinsulire in Ondo.

The meeting was organised to identifying the causes, effects and solutions to the societal challenges.

In his address, Akinsulire tasked the stakeholders to rub minds together and come up with workable ways and strategies to stamp out underage clubbing and moral decadence in Ondo West Local Government.

Akinsulire, therefore called for urgent and strict measures to tackle the situation headlong.

He advised parents and guardians to be alive to their parental responsibilities on their children/wards by inculcating in them adequate moral upbringing.

He also admonished school owners to ensure that no student go out during school hours in order to mitigate the hydra headed societal challenge in the  city.

Also speaking, the Council’s Vice – Chairman and Secretary, Mr John Folajimi Akintunde and Alhaji Basiru Oluwole expressed concerns on how underaged turned themselves into the hands of men around hotels, club houses and relaxation centres in and around Ondo City, saying it is dangerous for  their lives and future.

The stakeholders present agreed to take serious actions towards the moral orientation and sensitization of teenagers on the dangers of hanging out at hotels, clubs and relaxation centres in their respective capacities.

They also assured the government of full cooperation on the measures that would be taken by the government in this regard.

The representatives of the Ondo West Local Government community stakeholders present at the meeting are: Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) Yaba, Fagun and Ẹnu Ọwá Divisions, Adeyemi College of Education, Chief Immam, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taqwa, Amotekun Corps, Ondo Ekinmogun Youths Congress (OEYC), Secretary League of Imams, Ondo West Local Government Muslim community, AAYPR, CDHR, Human Rights Defence and Imam Iparuku.

Other are: Ondo West Local Government Director of General Services and Administration (DGSA), Mr. Arije A. I., Director, Community, Adetula A. A. and a host of others.
