‘Stop violence against women, girl-child’

A call has gone to all and sundry to rise up in combating all forms of violence against women and the girl-child in the society.
A woman activist, Mrs Olubunmi Boboye, who made the call in a chat with The Hope, affirmed that it has long term devastating effects on the lives of the victims and the society at large.
According to her, in recent times, violence against women and the girl-child have risen with incidence of domestic violence and rape on the increase.
To this end, she noted that continuous advocacy, and strengthening of social institutions is key to curb the menace in the society.
The lawyer stressed the need for all the states in Nigeria to implement the prohibition of violence against women and girl-child and further equip the unit in Women Affairs Ministries.
While saying violence against women and the girl-child does a lot of harm to the development of the society, she emphasised the need for people to speak with one voice until the act is totally eradicated.
She posited that victims and survivors must get justice and perpetrators adequately punished in order to an end it, saying vulnerables must equally be sensitised to know their rights and speak out.
To address the trend, she said it also requires a community -based, multi -approach and sustainable engagement with stakeholders.
She equally called on parents and guardians to always monitor the movement of their children and wards and also know the kind of friends they move with.
