Student crushes woman, children to death in Osun

Tragedy struck at Ode-Omu at the weekend, when a car whose occupants were said to be students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, rammed into a commercial motorcycle, killing four persons.
The yet-to-be identified driver of the car reportedly crushed a woman, simply identified as Cecilia and her two children, including the Okada man to death.
According to an eyewitness account, the motorcyclist was conveying the woman and her three children to Oogi town after a vigil, when the unfortunate incident happened around Obada market, Ode-Omu.
The eyewitness said the Okada man, the mother and two of her children died instantly while only the youngest child survived.
Angered by the incident, some residents reportedly gave the occupants of the car who tried to run away, a hot chase and caught two of them, while one person reportedly escaped.
The residents reportedly set those caught on fire but they were rescued by the police.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, for confirmation was futile.
She said:”There was a fatal accident involving a car and motorcycle in Obada road, Odeomu. The number plate of the burnt vehicle is LAGOS BDG 481JD.
“The driver escaped immediately the accident happened. After much appeal to the angry mob, they set ablaze the remaining two occupants of the vehicle.
“The police quenched the fire, rescue the occupants and transferred them to hospital in Osogbo.”
She added that normalcy has since returned to the area, while those set on fire were taken to an hospital in Osogbo, where they are currently receiving treatment.
