Student in court for stealing government property

An 18-year-old student, Olomi Akingbesote has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town on Tuesday, for allegedly breaking into Christ Anglican Caring Heart Mega Primary school in Ondo and stealing property worth N500,000.
Akingbesote is now facing a two-count charge bothering on breaking and stealing.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence on November 12, 2023, at 2 pm at Christ Anglican Caring Heart Mega Primary School, Ondo town in the Ondo Magisterial district.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Akao Moremi told the court that the defendant broke into the school premises and stole some quantity of burglary proof and Almaco glass valued at N500,000 property of Ondo State Government.
One of the counts read “That you, Olomi Akingbesote on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal some quantity of burglary proof and Almaco glass value N500,000 property of Ondo State Government“
The offence, according to the charge contravenes Sections 390(9)and 414(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, and applied for a date to enable him to study the case file.
The lawyer for the defendant, Hawkins Akinnuagbe, applied for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1,000,000 with one credible surety in like sum.
Ikujuni adjourned the case till January 9, 2024 for trial.
