An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a 23-year-old man, Afolayan Ayomide, in a Correctional Centre in  over alleged burglary and stealing.

The defendant, a student in one of the public secondary schools in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the State, is facing two counts charges.

The police prosecutor,  Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between January 21 and January 25 at about 02:00 a.m in Iyin-Ekiti.

Leramo alleged that the defendant broke into the house of one Osanipin Oluwafemi and other tenants.

He explained that the defendant stole two phones; Infinix Smart 3 valued at N52,000 and Infinix Smart 5 valued at N65,000.

According to him, the defendant broke through the iron burglary and tore the net to gain access through the window.

The offences contravene Sections 322(a) (c) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of EKiti State 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre pending  advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendant in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending outcome of advice.

He adjourned the case till March 23 for mention.
