Students of Ondo State College of Health Technology, Akure,  have commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the good road network being put in place across the state especially the  dualisation of Oda town  road.

To this end, they appealed to the government to speed up action on its construction in order to reduce  rate of accident on the route.

The president of the student union Omotoro Oke Gabriel said  there have been series of accidents involving students and commuters especially okada riders attributing it to reckless driving .

He revealed that four students and a staff of the school were hit by okada  in recent time,  noting that the union has taken steps to ensure that the students are safe on the route. He stated that the effort has not yielded result.

While lamenting the reckless driving especially by commercial motorbikes, he noted that two people lost their lives on the spot on Wednesday in an  accident which involved a commercial motorbike and a private vehicle.

He said that among effort made to reduce reckless driving on the route include the erection of four boards displaying road signs in front of the school which according to him three of them have been destroyed by okada riders.

While describing the bad portion on the lane Infront of the school as the major cause of accidents as most road users drive against traffic by diverting to the use of one line instead of the two lanes, he called on government to take pragmatic step in ending the menace stating that “we won’t mind a temporary bombs on the road in order to safeguard our students.”
