‘Students who won trophies ‘ll get scholarships’

Ondo State Government has promised to give scholarships to all students from the state, who participated in the various national and international competitions and won trophies/awards for the state.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, made the promise in his office at the formal presentation of trophies and other awards won by the state contingent at the just concluded competitions.

The competitions in which various schools participated were held between 2018 and May this year.

The competitions included Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) competition, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) National Science Quiz,  Cowbell National Mathematics competition, International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) competition and National Mathematics Olympiad.

Two students of St. Peter’s Unity Secondary School, Akure, Aro Elizabeth and Ojo Victor represented Nigeria at OKSEF -International Science Fair in Turkey between 10th and 19th June, 2019 and came second among 27 nations while two students of Fiwasaye Girl’s Grammar School, Akure have also qualified to represent the country in Entrepreneurial Competition at Houston Texas, USA in September this year.

 While receiving the state contingent, Governor Akeredolu specially commended them for doing the state proud, adding that the state would not forget them but continue to be there to support them until they attain the greater heights they deserve.

Akeredolu also presented the students and their teachers cash gifts, and stated that his administration would continue to reward hard work in the state, just as he admonished the excellent students not to relent in their efforts but continue to keep the flag flying.

He stressed that the trophies and other awards won by the students  on behalf of the state bear testimony to the fact that what is deposited in each of the students could only be imagined, emphasising that their own generation would be greater.

The governor further said a commendation letter would also be given to each of the students in addition to all other things government would do for them as a way of appreciating them.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Femi Agagu, lauded the governor for the opportunity given to the students to participate in the competitions.

He revealed that every year Ondo state has actively participated in both national and international competitions and won laurels, thus showcasing the state government’s efforts the education sector.

Also, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Rev. Akin Asaniyan, said the good vision of the Akeredolu-led administration in the area of science and technology is yielding good results  going by laurels won by the participating students, both at the national and international levels.
