The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, yesterday inaugurated Education Secretaries across the 18 Local Government areas of the state.

Inagurating the secretaries on behalf of the State Governor, the Chairman of the Board, Victor Olabimtan implored them to approach their jobs with positive mindset in order to achieve their mandates.

The former House of Assembly Speaker charged the education secretaries to redeploy every staff of their local government with National Certificate in Education, NCE, to the classrooms to teach.

He appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for counting them worthy of these appointments despite the arrays of people in the state.

He said he’s convinced that their appointment was in recognition of their capacity, capability and contributions over the years to the development the state.

Olabimtan urged them to collaborate effectively and work as a team towards engendering development in the State Basic Education in line with the law establishing the Board.

He also charged them to take inventory of teachers in schools in order to know the number of teachers the state is lacking.

“In Akure, we discovered that three teachers are in a classroom and they keep exaggerating that the state lack teachers.”

He also said that in each school, pupils should not be more that 35 in a classroom.

The SUBEB boss said the duty of the education secretaries is the appointment, posting, transfer, promotion, discipline of teaching and non-teaching staff on Grade Levels 01- 06, based on consultation with the Board.

“Making recommendations to the Board on promotion, posting and discipline of teaching and non-teaching staff on Grade Level 07 and above. Acquisition and distribution of materials and equipment in the LGUBEA, stimulating, promoting and participating in the running of the components of UBE in your area of jurisdiction among others.”

He hinted that there will be continuous redistribution of teachers especially in the coming long vacation.

He appealed to them to base their recommendations on seniority, stating that only those qualified would be considered.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Akinbamidele Akinnagbe congratulated the secretaries on their appointment, saying they are lucky because such appointment is done once in an administration.

Responding on behalf of the Education Secretaries,  Maeruf Bada thanked the governor for the rare opportunity for deeming it fit to appoint them.

He also appreciated the SUBEB boss for turning the tides of the commission with the new development.
