SUBEB lauded on projects execution

Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), has been commended for making use of the fund released to them judiciously and for also following the guidelines as directed by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Giving the commendation was the Federal Board Member with UBEC, Mr Ogueri Osundo during an advocacy meeting of UBEC board members with SUBEB and stakeholders and the supervision of the 2016/2017 UBEC Intervention projects.
He said all what he saw in the state were commendable and different from what he had been seen in other states and therefore called on the board to keep it up.
According to him,:” From what we have seen so far, it showed that Ondo state is passionate about education”
He also spoke about a new area that UBEC is looking at which has to do with out-of-school children, this is to make sure that every child of school age is enrolled.
Osundo urged the board to ensure that all children hawking on the street in the state are dissuaded from doing so and make sure out-of-school syndrome is a thing of the past.
He posited that royal fathers should be involved in putting an end to the scourge as they are closer to them,saying it is a big concern to the Federal Government.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman SUBEB, Princess Oladunni Odu, who said that the board has recorded a robust support from UBEC in assessing the intervention funds for the years 2013,2014,2015,2016 and 2017 said about 95 percent of the projects handled for 2013 to 2016 action plan had been completed and handed over to their beneficiaries while the projects for 2017/2018 are at various stages of completion.
She applauded the Teachers’ Professional Development (TPD) programme which she described as the needed pills that have rescued and repositioned Nigerian Primary Education System for better service delivery and said should be sustained.
“Ondo state has 135 participants enlisted in the Federal Teachers Scheme(FTS) and they are currently carrying out their duties in their places of assignments across the 18 Local Government Education Authority in the state,” she stated.
She therefore pleaded that UBEC should assist the state to reduce unemployment rate in the nation by absorbing the participants of the FTS into permanent employment because they are already in the system and have added value.
Odu said the distribution of instructional materials for 2016/2017 has been completed while that of 2017 2018 is on going and also recommended textbook for procurement in 2019 is also ongoing. She gave kudos to the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for prompt release of state counterpart funds which has given the board a smooth running on the projects.
Responding, the state Chairman,National Association of Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria( NAPTAN), Chief Abimbola Omoloja appreciated UBEC from the report received from SUBEB about them taking prompt action when it comes to releasing funds to the state.
He commended the state government for also releasing the counterpart funds from time to time and also the chairman of SUBEB for having performed excellently well beyond the expectations of parents.
Also, the chairman,Nigeria Union of Teachers,Mr Victor Amoko said there is no gainsaying that what the board has done has brought influx of pupils to public primary schools in the state and therefore gave kudos to SUBEB and the state government.
He used the occasion to call on UBEC to see to what he called acute shortage of teachers in schools, saying if there are infrastructures and there no teachers,it will augur well.
The UBEC officials were later conducted round the projects on ground in the state.
