Submit your report within 2 weeks, ODHA directs C’ttee

Ondo State House of Assembly has directed the Committee on Legislative and Judiciary Autonomy to submit its report to the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu within the next two weeks.

Following the presume delay by the committee in the submission of its report prompted the House of Assembly to sumourn the committee yesterday.

The committee had a close door meeting with members of the House of Assembly chaired by the Speaker , Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun.

Briefing the house of assembly correspondents after the meeting, the Majority Leader of the house, Mr Jamiu Maito said ” It is of great importance to know that the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was the first governor in the whole federation to set up a committee on financial autonomy to the  other two arms of government which was accented to by the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari sometimes ago”.

Maito averred that the committee which comprises representatives of the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary have met and discussed but the dragging of its resolution was what brought the meeting between the state house of assembly and the committee members together to fashion out the way forward.

The majority leader informed that in the course of the meeting, the resolution reached was that the technical committee within the committee should immediately submit their report to the whole committee and that the committee on financial autonomy should as a matter of urgency submit its report to the State Governor within the next two weeks.

It would be recalled that sometimes ago, President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the Judiciary and legislative autonomy bill to give financial independent to the two arms.

Consequent upon the signing, the governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu set up a committee about five months ago to work out the modality for the implementation of the proposed autonomy to the two arms of government.
