Ondo State Government has constituted a Committee on Palliatives to cushion the consequential effects of the fuel subsidy removal and its impacts on residents of the state.
Briefing Government House reporters yesterday at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan assured that government will continue to place premium on the welfare of the people in the 18 council areas.
Igbasan said the State Committee on Palliatives and Subsidy removal is headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, with several other members while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget will serve as Secretary to the Committee.
This, among others were part of critical decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Igbasan who explained that government is aware of the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal on the citizenry, also assured the people of the state government’s quick intervention in no distance time.
He added that the committee will soon convene a meeting to work out modalities on the estimate to be accrued to the state by the federal government.
He said nobody will be left out of the government’s holistic approach that will benefit all.
The Commissioner appealed to the people of the state to be patient, calm and continue to show understanding as the state awaits its own share of the N500bn from the federal government.
Also, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro said the Council has also approved some chieftaincy stools in Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ose and Akoko North East local government.
They are Oloto of Oloto in Okitipupa; Olu of Igodan Lisa of Okitipupa; Olugbe of Ugbe Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government; Olukaro of Ikaro in Ose Local Government and the Maporure of Agerige in Ilaje Local Government.
Takuro noted that the Council also approved two Warrant Chiefs for the purpose of selection process of Olusupare of Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Pastor Femi Agagu said the EXCO approved the construction of 4.75 kilometers selected roads in Igbobini and Agadagba Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.
He added that the State Executive Council equally approved the construction of 1,000 metre concrete walk ways in Obe Nla in Ilaje Local Government Area.
According to him, the Council also considered the progress on some ongoing road projects including the 32.725km Alape junction in Araromi Seaside in Ilaje Local Government, 1km at Igbotu in Ese-Odo Local Government and in Akure, 8.135km dual carriage way from Oba Adesida through Hospital road to Ijoka to Alaafia Tayo and Idiagba Titun/Investment junction in Akure, as well as the 15km single carriage way from Ijoka to Okeya/Iginsogba/Idanre road.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Oyeniyi Oseni said government has embarked on measures to reduce cases of flood incidences in the state.
Oseni called on the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on waterways and channels to complement government efforts at reducing flood in the state.
