Ondo State government has commenced the operation of its subsidised buses for the transportation of workers as one of the measures to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on the citizens.
The transportation palliative for public servants commenced today in all the strategic locations in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Ondo State Government last week rolled out palliatives including transporting workers to and from office to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal on the citizens.
Chairman of the State palliatives implementation committee and Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa said the state will deploy all existing buses in all MDAs to serve as free shuttle buses to public servants till December 31. while additional CNG buses will be purchased to convey of public servants, to and from work at no cost to them.
According to a circular yesterday made available to MDAs from the office of the Head of Service, the transportation palliative takes off today.
The state government, however, gave a condition for civil servants to enjoy the palliative with a directive that workers must hold their means of identification before they will be allowed to board the buses.
The statement said designated vehicles shall commence movement from each take-off points by 6:45 a.m. daily from Monday to Friday
“As part of measures to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy on public servants of Ondo State, the State government has magnanimously designed a fully subsidized transportation system for public servants of Ondo State.
“The first phase will commence within Akure metropolis while it would be extended to other major cities in the State, subsequently.
“Consequently, the following routes have been mapped out for effective implementation of the programme as follows:

“It should be noted that this programme will formally take off on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 and the designated vehicles shall commence movement from each of the take-off points by 6:45 a.m. daily from Monday to Friday.
Also, Public Servants are to ensure they take their valid official identity cards with them always to be eligible for this transport scheme. The identity card admits only one person.
