Summer Tennis Clinic kicks off in Ondo South

The Wife of Ondo State Governor, Chief Mrs. Betty Anyanwu -Akeredolu has kicked off the 2022 Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic of the South Senatorial District for children between ages 4-13 at Stella Marris College, Okitipupa.

The Clinic was the fifth of its kind in the State and has been decentralised among the three Senatorial District in the State in order to allow for more participation and talents discovery.

Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu who is also the convener of the programme in her address said that the Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic has become an annual event aimed at grooming future champions.

She said that the Summer Tennis Clinic will continue to lay the foundation for the discovery of talents.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of 2022 Summer Tennis Clinic, Mrs Olamide Falana, described the event as one of the great initiatives of the First Lady whose innovation she said has touched lives of Ondo citizens.

She said: “It is a wonderful initiative of Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu to discover talents and keep the young ones productively busy during the summer holiday and to open minds of our young ones to the endless possibilities and wealth in the world of sports.”

She encouraged leaders in the south senatorial district to take advantage of this rare opportunity to groom giants from amongst the children by supporting the laudable initiative.

Also Speaking, South Senatorial Chairman, 2022 Ondo Summer Tennis Clinic, Prince Jimi Odimayo, appreciated the efforts of the Wife of the governor towards giving the boy and girl child sense of belonging.

He said: “It is no news that Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic has changed the lives some participants who have now gained a sense of belonging, confidence and dreams of traveling to the world playing championship. They serve as scorecards of past editions. Aside from discovering Tennis talents, the gains of teaching this spot to our children are numerous, such as the increase in well -being, lesson learnt among others.”

Prince Odimayo however appealed to parents to support their children in order to discover hidden talents in them. He also charged participants to make judicious use of the opportunity in Tennis and take the game with every seriousness so as to be the future celebrated sport persons from the country just like Tobi Amusan.
