Summer U – 15 competitions to keep youth busy –Organisers

After a successful screening and accreditations of teams and players, the cloud is now clear for the take off of the Otunba Dele Ajayi under – 15 Summer Holiday Football Competition.

The Vice Chairman of Akure North Football Council, Mr. Sunday Owoyemi, who is the head of the screening and accreditation committee made this known to  Journalists at the venue of the exercise at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

He said the screening was imperative in order to give credibility to the competition and ensure the participants are real under – 15.

He added that, “we want a departure from the era where age cheatings were the order of the day, which had done more harm to our players both home and abroad.

“We want to select them to be able to participate and measure up with their counterparts outside the state that is why we are so strict and meticulous about the screening”.

Owoyemi explained that some of the criteria used to determine the players real age during screening are, their eye balls, teeth and other means.

The facilitator and the chief executive officer of Kunle Tuface Football Promotion Nigeria, Oluwatope Ayokunle revealed that the essence of the Summer Holiday Football Competition is to keep the youths busy during the holiday.

 Ayokunle said that it’s an avenue to let them know why they should do away with social vices and engage themselves in extracurricular activities during the long vacation.

He added that, “football and education are now like a siamese that can’t be separated, people are doing the two together now, and lots of professional footballers are graduates from different disciplines. We continue to intensify efforts in discovering them from the grassroots and develop them to stardom”, he added.

According to him, eight teams from the three senatorial districts are going to participate in the competition that will commence on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Ijapo Hosing field while the grand finale will be played at the State sports complex, Akure.
