Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Dotun Owanikin has assured football stakeholders in the state that Sunshine Stars Management will do everything legitimately possible to encourage the red -hot striker, Sadeeq Yusuf and other players from poachers.
Yusuf is the current league’s top scorer with four goals.
The Commissioner in a chat with Sporting Hope in Akure, the State capital, added that what happened in the case of Israel Abia will not repeat itself in the case of Sadeeq Yusuf.
According to him, “we will do everything possible not only to encourage Sadeeq Yusuf ,but all the players to retain the best legs in the national league for this season and to also help the team win the league this season. I can assure you that his case will not be like that of Abia”
He said; Israel Abia was Sunshine Stars’ highest goal scorer last season and he was later loaned to Enugu Rangers mid season, it was a costly mistake,” he said.
Owanikin added that Sunshine Stars’ home victory over Warri Wolves was the major motivator for the Akure Landlords’ triumph over Dakkada FC in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He said, “after the home victory against Warri Wolves we charged them to go all out to shoot at sight in Uyo against Dakkada FC, we told them winning against the ‘Nest of Champions’ will boost our team’s position on the league table.
He commended the team’s Coaching crew and the players for the good work they did, urging the team to keep the momentum going.
He said in the next few days the team will inject new experienced players into the team, as soon as all issue barring them from registering new players are over, assuring the fans that they will soon begin to see an improved Sunshine Stars FC in the league.
