The General Secretary of Sunshine Stars/ Queens supporters club, Tunde Adeboboye has said football fans are supposed to be motivators and energisers to their respective teams and not to be constituting threat to spectators at sporting arena.

He said Sunshine Stars supporters are the best in the country in terms of motivating and morale boosters .

Adeboboye in a chat with Sporting Hope in Akure, said the Owena Whales’ supporters were not found wanting by both Nigeria Football Federation NFF and League management Company (LMC) during the just concluded 2021/22 Nigeria Professional  League (NPFL) season.

He added that executive members of the supporters club in Ondo State embarked on proper and aggressive sensitisation of the fans across board at the beginning of the last season.

He said, we moved round the Akure metropolis with megaphones to let our fans know the implication of thuggery at the match venue on our teams, which he said may lead our team to irredeemable end.

“We advised them to be calm and maintain the rules of the game even when the officiating seems not to be favourable to us, that even when we are losing we just have to keep supporting them.”

“Thanked God, there was no reported case of violence during any of our home matches and I also commended the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa who is the chairman of the caretaker management  committee of the teams. He invited all the stakeholders to a meeting when Sunshine Stars returned to Akure from Ijebu – Ode where they were playing their home matches due to the non approval of our stadium for NPFL matches by the LMC.

Adeboboye said: “Its high time supporters club across the country learn from the recent down fall of Kano Pillars, saying Pillars were relegated not because they played bad but due to thuggery and must win at all cost mentality.”

The General Secretary added that the executive member of the supporters club will continue the sensitisation as the new season commences.

“We can support our team without fighting, so that we can be an energiser, morale booster and tonic to our team so that we can get the best out of them,” he said.
