In preparation for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, will join seven other teams to trade tackles at the Governor Douye Diri Preseason Football Tournament in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The preseason tournament is scheduled to kick off on Monday, August 12, 2024 and end on August 18 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, with arrival slated for Sunday 11, August.
The head coach of Sunshine Stars, Kennedy Boboye in a chat with the team’s media, confirmed that the Owena Whales will participate in the pre -season competition, saying the tourney will afford him the opportunity to assess his team ahead of the league’s kicks off.
Boboye said the competition will not be a must win for his side, adding that if it comes his way to win, that they will grab it.
He said: “The preseason competition will be strictly used to assess the newly recruited players, we have received some new players in our team from other clubs, so we are going to Bayelsa to test the players.
“The tournament is like a build up for us ,it’s not a must win for our side, but if it comes, we will take it.”
“The most important thing for us is to see how we can blend the new and old players together for a better performance.”
“Despite the fact that we started a bit late, we are optimistic of a better season, we have good players who had joined us
from other teams, and we are going to use this preseason tournament to see how we are going to incorporate them perfectly into the team in line with our philosophy,” he said
