Sunshine Stars U19 defeat R2 Finesse FA in N- Youth League opener

Sunshine Stars Youth Team have begun the 2024/25 N-Youth league campaign on a bright note by defeating visitors, R2 Finesse FA 2-0 in match-day one played at Sunshine Games Village, Akure.

Centre defender, Richard Christopher’s goal put the home team ahead in the 24th minute from a well delivered close range free kick.

Thereafter, the Olanrewaju Ale tutored side were in control of the game all through creating chances which were not converted to goals.

Richard again wasted no time to double Sunshine Stars lead in the 44th minute, scoring through a penalty kick.

The home side’s defence led by Richard, Taiwo Ogunleye, Anifowose Oludare and Isaiah Sunday shielded goalkeeper Francis Gabriel, to ensure that the team started the 2024/25 N-Youth League season on a clean sheet and maximum points.

Sunshine Stars’ Youth Team head coach Olarenwaju Ale expressed happiness over the victory, saying despite the fact that most of the players are newly recruits, they all did well.

“We dominated the game, that was what gave us the goal. we are just trying to play the way we did in training, we still have more to do in our next away game,” he said.

Sunshine Stars Youth Team will next play away to Gateway U-19 team, in Ijebu-Ode, on Tuesday, October 1.
