Private and corporate bodies have been urged to join hands with government to develop sports in Ondo State and in Nigeria at large.
The General Manager Ondo State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite stated this during Super Boxing championship held at the State Sports Complex in Akure on Wednesday.
Boxers from five zones of the state participated in the championship sponsored by Sunday Owoyemi (SUNBETH).
Fagite commended the sponsor for his support for grassroots development in the state , saying the competition was organised to select the best hands that will represent the state in forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled for Ogun State.
The General Manager urged the sponsor to extend his support to other sports, adding that it’s a known fact that government alone can’t develop sports .
“I thank you very much for your support and I use this opportunity to call on other private individuals and corporate bodies to take a cue from what Mr Sunday Owoyemi is doing in the state”.
The sponsor, Chief Sunday Owoyemi said he was very glad to be part of the competition, saying he is a lover of sports especially boxing.
According to him, “Because I’m a lover of boxing that is why I sponsored the championship; by the grace of God, the championship will become annual event”, he said.
Head coach of Ondo State boxing, Moses Osifo commended all the boxers in the bout, saying he was satisfied with the display of the athletes.
“Ondo State is blessed with raw talents, we have seen what they can offer; as a coach it’s left in our hands to polish them technically.”
“We‘ll be well represented at the next National Sports Festival,” he said .
