Super Eagles drop one place in FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles dropped to 32nd in the latest FIFA ranking released by the World football governing body yesterday.

The three-time African champions who ranked 31st in the world on August 25, dropped one position to 32nd .

They however maintained their fourth position on the continent behind Senegal, Morocco and Tunisia.

2021 Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal maintained their status as Africa’s number team, unmoved as the 18th in the world.

Morocco moved up one place to 22nd in the world and Africa’s number two team, while Tunisia remained unmoved in 30th in the world and third on the continent.

Breathing down Nigeria’s neck are Algeria who moved up four places to be ranked 37th in the world. They also overtook Cameroon and Egypt to become Africa’s number five ranked country.

The Eagles only game during the ranking period was a 2-1 loss to Algeria in an international friendly in Oran on September 27.

Brazil maintained their position on top of the global ranking after victories over Ghana and Tunisia in international friendlies played last month.

Other positions in the top five also remained unchanged with Belgium, Argentina, France and England occupying the second, third, forth and fifth positions respectively.

Italy leapfrogged Spain to go sixth while the eighth, ninth and 10th positions remained unchanged with Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark respectively.

The next ranking is expected to be released on December 22 after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
