Support women to achieve economic independence- Gov’s wife

Wife of the Ondo state Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyawu-Akeredolu has advocated that women be given the room to exhibit their full potential .
She made this statement during the celebration of the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration held in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Arabirin Akeredolu who was represented by wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa charged stakeholders to entrench universal support for women in challenging poverty, reducing hunger and building healthier societies.
“We must change our attitude towards our families most especially our spouses and children because we play significant roles in the well-being of the family especially during this COVID-19 era,” she said.
She advised women to ensure that all their families members and people around them adhere to the preventive measures of COVID-19 .
In a goodwill message, representative from the Justice Development and Peace Commission, Oluwatoba Olaifa highlighted four priority areas for women which include education empowerment, women political participation, health care, affordable and safe water.
The commission seeks for the departure from unbeneficial and established male paradigm forged from the unfair precepts of patriarchy.
Earlier, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Omolara Adeniran described this year’s theme as apt and relevant as it explored the efforts by women and girls around the world that could give them better future and recovery from the pandemic
Adeniran who appreciated Mrs Akeredolu for her various initiatives and programmes, applauded the governor for being gender sensitive in all his programmes and for giving women a voice in governance as well as providing various credit windows and empowerment programmes to uplift the status of women and citizens of the state.
The event featured lectures and sensitization talks on matters of importance to women era as well as gifts presentation to 40 selected vulnerable women from each of the 18 local government areas in the state.
