Surety in trouble as accused jumps bail

Failure to produce the accused person he stood surety for has landed a 45-year-old  man Suraju Igbayilola in Osogbo Magistrates’ Court.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo told the court that Igbayilola committed the offence as he  stood as a surety for Lukman Sodiq on August 11, 2018 at Ataoja police station in Osogbo.

He further said that  since the accused person, Lukman Sodiq, was not found, hence the surety was brought to the court.

Fagboyinbo said that the offence committed contravened section 126 of the Criminal Code Cap 24 Vol II Law of Osun state 2003.

Igbayilola pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Counsel to the accused person, Tunde Adedokun, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term, promising that he would  not jump bail.

The Magistrate, O.A Oloyade, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with  two sureties in like sums she  said one of the sureties  must live within the magisterial district of the court.

The magistrate adjourned the case till February 14, 2019 for hearing.
