An Ondo Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Taiwo Akinbobola, to three months imprisonment, for failure to produce the defendant he stood surety for.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Akao Moremi told the court that Akinbobola committed the offence as he stood surety for his brother, Akinyemi Akinbobola on August 11, 2022, at Oka Magistrate’s Court, Ondo, in case number MOD/125c/2022.
He further said that since the defendant, Akinyemi Akinbobola, was not found, hence the surety was brought before the court.
Moremi said that the offence committed contravene section 138 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol I Laws of Ondo state 2006.
The convict was found guilty of the charge levelled against him.
Counsel to the convict, Tosin Okesola, urged the court to have mercy on his client, saying he is a first offender.
The Magistrate, Mosunmola Ikujuni sentenced the convict to three months imprisonment.
She, however gave him an option of N500,000 fine, which is the bail granted the defendant at large.
