Suspected gay escapes from police custody

A-37-year -old man, Olusoji Adebayo, has been declared wanted by the police in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state, for allegedly escaping from police custody in the state.

A source close to the police in the state, told our correspondent that the suspect, a graduate of Physics from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUSTECH), and one of his friends,  whose name was not given, were recently arrested by the youths in the area and handed over to the police for alleged involvement in homosexual.

The duo were said to have been rescued from an angry mob that nearly lynched them over what they described as, “sinful and abominable act.”

The incident which occurred at Agric-Olope area of the town almost threw the community into a turmoil as irate youths pounced on them and nearly lynched them before police rescued them.

It was gathered that the suspect, Olusoji Adebayo, whose whereabouts still unknown by the police, had allegedly engaged in homosexual activities and lured many youths in the  area to the unlawful act since he moved into the area in October, 2019.

It was also learnt that youths in the street had set up a surveillance team to monitor his movements.

He was reportedly caught on the fateful day, with a male partner, simply identified as Adebowale.

A resident of the community, who spoke with journalists on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Adebayo, was previously caught in a similar act in Ondo town,   before he escaped to Ekiti State for fear of being attacked by members of the community.

Speaking on the development, the Ekiti State Police spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Abutu,  confirmed the matter and explained that the operations of the Special Crime detective of the command are working round the clock to arrest the suspect.
