SWAN lauds sports development in Ondo

Executive members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ondo state chapter, have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports  Development, Mr Dotun Owanikin within his short stint in office.

The Chairman of the Association in the state , Mr Wahab Bankole, who stated this during the body’s courtesy visit to the ministry, said the visit was to familiarize with the commissioner in a bid to strengthen sports development in the state.

He commended the state government for its contributions towards sports development in the state by ensuring the state was always at its  best at any national competitions.

The SWAN Chairman also sought the  cooperation of private individuals in developing  sports in the state, adding that government can not do it alone .

While reacting , the commissioner described SWAN as partners in progress, saying he feels so much attached to the association.

Owanikin commended the professionalism of the body in sports reportage, urging the members of the pen profession to verify facts before going to press.

He said; “If i had not done other courses in school ,I would have become a sport writer”, he said.

“I want us to work together in other to jointly return the state to its place of pride in sports development”.

He assured his guests that the state  medalists will be recognised and celebrated to motivate them for better performance .

He reiterated the call for private sectors and individuals to work with the ministry in order to develop sports at all facets.

“We will continue to involve our youth at early stage to avoid age cheating” .

“We paraded the youngest athletes at the just concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin”.
