Tailor bags 3 years for punching man’s eye with key

A 41-year-old tailor, Tajudeen Olajide has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Ondo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, for punching a man’s eye with a key.
The presiding Magistrate, Tope Aladejana sentenced Tajudeen after he found him guilty of the one count charge of assault occasioning bodily harm filed against him by the police.
The convict, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on April 4, 2022. But he pleaded not guilty to the count and was granted bail.
The prosecutor, Suliaman Abdulateef, told the court that the defendant (Olajide) assaulted one Olamiposi Oluwatobi, and punched him with a key in the eye. on December 10, 2021 at about 1pm besides Crown Hospital, Akure.
The prosecution alleged Olajide of punching the victim’s eye with his fist and a key during a street fight over superiority.
Suliaman added that the defendant’s act made the victim sustain grevious injury on the eye, which later resulted in his total blindness.
According to the charge, the offence contravanes Sections 252 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant’s counsel confirmed the position of the prosecution and noted that his client had made efforts to settle with the family.
In his ruling, Magistrate Aladejana found the defendant guilty of the offence.
“Having been found guilty of the offence, the defendant is hereby convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment or pay immediate damages of N700,000 to the victim,” Aladejana ordered.
