‘Take our memories off 1994 Eagles’

By Femi Atolagbe

The proprietor of Florence Joshua football academy (FJ), Mr Elvis Ogbebor has charged Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to give Nigerians a new team that will watch our memories off the “1994 Eagles set.”
Ogbebor stated this in a phone interview with the Sporting Hope in Akure the state capital.
He said Nigeria are blessed with talents home and abroad, saying it will be easier for Rohr as a foreign coach to work with oversea players who have been discovered at the tender age with basic knowledge of the round leather game.
According to him, “he will be difficult for him to have more than one local league player in his team ,because Nigeria players lack a lot ,we are at the grassroot , we go to stadium to watch them day in day out.”
“Lots of our local players did not have the basic requirement to succeed outside the shore of the country, look at how Joe Aribo walked into the team and established himself in the same team John Ogu has been struggling to get a shirt despite many call up.
No doubt ,there are lots of good players in our league if they can up their game and be level headed and show high quality the coach will be willing to invite them to give a fight the foreign players.
He noted that the Franco German coach has been doing a very good job, saying the Eagles rating under him has been encouraging.
“Despite that, we expect him to surpass any achievement he had with the team, which is the bronze medal he got at the last Nations Cup in Egypt.
“He should be able to qualify us seamlessly for major tournament and win something that he will be remembered for as we always remember Clement Westerhof.”
Ogbebor stressed that Rohr has the ability and good players at his disposal with good technical know how to get things done.
“He always ensure there is replacement for retired players like Mikel Obi ,Odion Ighalo , all we need to do is to allow him to  be fully in charge of the team without any interfering from any quarter.”
