Talent hunt: Wexford College students release album

In addition to the academic activities of Wexford International College, Oba-Ile, Akure, the school has taken a step further by introducing the musically talented students among them to the music world.

Recently, the students released an album titled “Trust and Obey” which is selling fast in the market.

The proprietor of the school, Mr Adeolu William, described music as an important part of human life, stating that  in all cultures and people in the world, music is an exception and integral part of human existence.

According to him, music education is very important because it offers students the opportunity to connect with other people, saying children are naturally social, and it is important to encourage them to build relationship by providing them true music.

” For them to garner the experience  they will need to lead  other people, was what led us to embark on the music journey and that was  one of the reasons they embarked on the music project.

He noted that though the students are not professionals, but they were very enthusiastic and wanted to demonstrate the talent they have and  that was why they could achieve great success on the project.

According to him, the students were excited about the project and the school enjoyed a lot of cooperation from them and their parents.

William mentioned some challenges he encountered during the project, which were the issue of producer, recording engineer that was  not time conscious, and that the weather was not friendly with them sometimes.

Speaking on the issue of piracy, he expressed surprise that while the job was on, it was already been pirated. Then a major song of the video was stolen and they had to reproduce it again.

However, they were able to succeed in the project

“The advantages in music are so numerous. When you listen to music, your mood changes, music bring out the good qualities in leaders. This is the reason we develop this interest at Wexford College. We have a very superb music curriculum as part of our overall curricular. The joy of making music is fun.

“We want to engage students in something that is fun filled, music promotes self discipline, improves memory and reduces stress.

“We make plans to put finishing touches to our entire music programme including the music laboratory and studio, so that we can catch them young.

William revealed  that another album is on the way, saying they have learnt a lot from the first album, and the video would take them to various parts of Nigeria   and beyond.

According to him, people should discover themselves, be focused and  be self disciplined, without that, there won’t be achievement.

The head boy and girl of the school, Adetokunbo Ajayi and Oluwatofunmiloba Henry said that the musical album helped a lot of students to discover their hidden talents, especially in the area of singing, dancing and also in decoration. It also helped them to have the opportunity to involve themselves in extracurricular activities and to do other things apart from the usual academic activities in the school.

“We thank God for the success of the project, but it was actually really stressful.” They expressed.
